For this post, I'd like to talk about costuming, which is one of the most exciting and fun elements for a new dancer. We do sell some nice scarves at the studio, but there is much more that a bellydancer needs! I've compiled a list of vendors that I personally have had good experience with, but please feel free to add your own favorites! I am not being paid for any of these endorsements :)
-Flying Skirts-- beautiful 10 yard skirts, stretch cholis, pantaloons, and more!
-Melodia Designs-- know for the awesome flared pants that come in an assortment of styles, but also has some other great costuming options
-Dahlal International-- one of the largest costume vendors in the US, definitely worth checking out for their to-die-for selection of bedlah (sets typically worn by cabaret dancers) and multitude of costuming options
-Tribal Source-- beautiful tribal goodies!
-The Bellydance Shop-- great source for class wear and professional costumes alike, and it is even located in Charlotte!
-Firefly Style-- awesome tops, vests, pants and much more (be aware that their stuff tends to run small)
--Bellydance Store-- great selection of ready-to-purchase professional cabaret costumes
--L. Rose Designs-- beautiful, custom-made dancewear for both practice and performance.
--Bhuz Bellydance Swap Meet-- a forum for bellydancers to sell their costumes and other merchandise. While it isn't 100% safe that posters won't be scamming, there is a really great standard on this forum and myself and many other dancers I've talked to have found its users to be honest and reliable.
Remember that a true bellydancer is always on the lookout for something that they can incorporate into their costuming. Thrift stores are a great place to find creative solutions to your costuming needs. If you are crafty, there are plenty of bellydance patterns that are high-quality.
If you need a recommendation for where to find something specific let me know!
